Fitting Your Oil Filter

Locate turbo oil pressure feed line and Turbocharger location

This line is usually found on the top of the turbo centre housing rotating assembly (CHRA) that feeds the turbo for lubrication and cooling. The line must be undone.

Notes
Note: Do not remove turbocharger feed fitting in Turbosmart Turbocharger. It is used to locate the internal bearing cartridge.

Notes
Note: Direction is important, the Turbo side must be plumbed to the Turbo

Fit Oil Filter to Turbocharger

It is advised that the banjo bolt should be loose before fitting to the turbocharger. The Spacers are a one time use only. It is important to torque the filter correctly to ensure that it is working correctly. The sequence of tightening up the oil filter is done as mentioned below. The base should be attached to the turbocharger oil feed (1). It should be torqued via the top of the oil filter with a 14mm socket. Ensuring the correct engagement as to not damage the hex (2). Finally, the banjo bolt orientation can be selected ensuring not to forget the crush washers (3).

Notes
Note: Ensure that banjo bolt is spacer is present as well as only used once after torquing.

Start engine and check for leaks

Congratulations, your Oil filter is installed and ready for use. Double check all fittings, lines and mountings then proceed to start engine and check for leaks. No adjustment is required..

Warning
WARNING!
Ensure to verify Engine Oil Pressure as well as Turbo Oil Pressure

Alert
CAUTION! If oil leaks are present – switch off engine immediately and rectify leaks.

Filter Maintenance

The filter should be cleaned thoroughly and/or replaced as required in line with engine oil changes. To do this, we need two non-marking 14mm spanner and a -4AN spanner to disassemble with anticlockwise rotation. The Filter can then be accessed for cleaning. Use a combination of compressed air and elastomer safe degreasers spraying through from the outlet side to dislodge particles on the inlet side of the filter.

To Reassemble we can follow the exploded view below. Having the cap upside down the filter, and position can be stacked to ensure components sit in the correct position before reassembly.

The Oil Filter must be torqued to 15Nm (11.06.lb.ft.)

The filter should be refitted in the same orientation. The Clean side should always face the turbo.
